‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’ on USB Stick | New Movies on Flash Drives?

Posted on Saturday 28 November 2009

Transformers on flash media? More than meets the eye?Kingston, manufacturer of USB drives and SD cards, has teamed up with Paramount to release Transformers:Revenge of the Fallen directly to USB. For $30, you can purchase the Transformers sequel on a 4 GB USB drive.

Movies on USB?

While the idea of offering films via USB is an interesting one, I have to wonder about the $30 price for a film that, at only 4 GB, isn’t going to be of the visual and audio quality of blueray. $30 is more than the film would cost on blueray or digital format, so I’m wondering if this idea will take off.

From what I’ve read from Kingston, this could very well be an ongoing trend. According to Rick Webb, vice president, consumer markets group:

“Kingston is very excited to join forces with Paramount Digital Entertainment on this venture as they are one of the most innovative and forward thinking studios for digital distribution. PDE adds great value to our memory products. We look forward to working with them to bundle additional Paramount content on our full line of USB drives and Flash memory cards.”

Italian Prosecutors Seeking Jail Sentences For Google Execs In Down Syndrome Video Case

Posted on Friday 27 November 2009

Google LogoThe Italian prosecutors currently pursuing Google and its executives through court in Milan are seeking jail sentences for all four of the accused in a case concerning a UGC video uploaded in 2006. At stake in the case is the very freedom of the Internet.

The Blame Game

Bullying in all its various forms is a disgusting act that should be stamped out at all costs. However, when the people doing the bullying, in this case of a disabled teenager with Down Syndrome, upload a video of them doing it, are they to blame or is it the site owner?

That’s the question currently being asked, in essence, in a Milan court. Four Google executives have been brought to trial on charges of defamation and failure to exercise control over personal data over the video uploaded to the now-defunct Google Video in 2006.

Joost Dead As It Sells Out To Adconion | So, Where Did The Venice Project Go Wrong?

Posted on Thursday 26 November 2009

Joost LogoThe most recent article about Joost here on WebTVWire stated that the company was “heading ever closer to death.” And that death now seems to have come after Joost.com, the trademark, and some technology assets have been acquired by an online ad network.

    The Mighty Joost

As Joost reaches this unfortunate end, it’s hard to imagine quite how big a deal the service was in the run up to and around its launch. Hell, it was so secretive and self-important that it was known as The Venice project prior to being renamed Joost.

The service began life in October 2006 after being created by Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis. The pair were already well-known for both Skype and Kazaa so the signs were all there that Joost was guaranteed to succeed.

Prior to its launch, Joost had hundreds of software developers working on the service and had signed up a million eager beta testers (me included). But its launch at the end of 2007 was to be the high point for the service.
