Gosip Girl

Gossip Girl Synopsis

Gossip Girl is an American teen drama based on the book series by the same name and revolves around the lives of private school teenagers growing up on the Upper East Side of New York. Gossip Girl, an unseen narrator, spreads the town’s latest gossip on her blog.

The team behind Gossip Girl consists of writers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (from The O.C.) and director Mark Piznarski (from Veronica Mars). The cast, which mainly consists of private high school students, are Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively), Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester), Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley).

Gossip Girl first aired in September 18, 2007 on CTV in Canada and now airs on The CW.The show is currently on it’s 2nd season.

Supernatural

Supernatural Synopsis

Supernatural is an American horror TV show about Dean & Sam Winchester, two brothers who travel across the country to work as paranormal investigators. While most of the episodes deal with your usual supernatural creatures (ghosts, vampires, and werewolves) a number of evil spirits are those of urban legends, ancient myths, and folklore- The Lady in White and Bloody Mary to name a few.

The series’ creator, Eric Kripke, is known for using other classic horrer stories as influences; some of them being Neil Giman’s The Sandman, Joseph Campbell’s The Hero’s Journey and American Werewolf in London. Perhaps the show’s trademark is Dean’s 1967 Chevy Impala that was passed down to him by his father. The car’s trunk holds various supernatural weapons.

Supernatural first aired in September of 2005 on The WB and is currently on it’s 4th season on The CW’s lineup.

Heroes Synopsis

Heroes is a science-fiction/drama TV series about the lives of “ordinary people who discover extraordinary powers” and their role of using their superhuman powers in saving or destroying the world. Since the show has been compared by critics to X-men and 24, those who enjoy action flicks or comic books won’t be disappointed.

The main characters include the cheerleader Claire Bennet (Hayden Panettiere), doctor Mohinder Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy), Japanese office worker Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka), and nurse Peter Petrelli that discover they have the powers of regeneration, super-strength, time travel, and flight respectively.

Heroes first aired in September of 2006 on NBC and is currently on it’s 3rd season.

Entourage

Entourage Synopsis

Entourage revolves around the life of Vincent Chase (Hollywoods’s latest A-list movie star) and Eric, Drama and Turtle- his childhood friends from Queens, New York. As Vince’s fame rises, the money the temptations that come along with it also rise.

Not only was the show co-created by Mark Wahlberg, but it is also executive-produced by him. Some of the plots supposedly derive from real-life experiences that happened to he and his friends as an up-and-coming actor.

Vince is played by Adrian Grenier (”The Devil Wears Prada”), Eric is played by Kevin Connolly (”Antwone Fisher,” “John Q”), and Turtle is played by Jerry Ferrara (”Grounded for Life”). Aside from the stong cast, almost each episode of Entourage guest stars a celebrity. You just never know when Jessica Alba or Kanye West might pop up.

Entourage first aired in July of 2004 on HBO and is currently on it’s 5th season.

Desperate Housewives

Desperate Housewives Synopsis

Desperate Housewives is a drama-comedy show about the happenings of Wisteria Lane, the street where Mary Alice Young suddenly committed suicide. Now dead, she acts as the eyes and ears of fictional American town of Fairview, Eagle State and exposes her former neighbors’ dirty little secrets.

A few of them include Susan Mayer (played by Teri Hatcher) a divorced mother desperate for any love she can get and Lynette Scavo (Felicity Huffman) who does her best to raise her four crazy kids. Then there’s Bree Van De Kamp- a scarier Martha Stewart. And last but not least, Eva Longoria plays Gabrielle Solis- a retired model who has an affair with her teenage gardener.

Each episode usually contains narration by Mary Alice Young (Brenda Strong) and slowly unfolds a new scandal or mystery. The show is supposedly the most popular show in its demographic worldwide, with an audience of nearly 120 million viewers.

Desperate Housewives first aired in October of 2004 on ABC and is currently on it’s 5th season.

Weeds Synopsis

Weeds is a sit-com which follows Nancy Botwin (played by Mary Louise Parker), a widowed housewife from a wealthy Californian suburb. When her husband died Nancy became a marijuana dealer serving the local upper-middle-class in order to make ends meet.

Nancy set up her ‘business’ using a bakery as a front with the assistance of a city councilman and sourced her weed from streetwise dealer Conrad Shepard.

The comedy series reveals the hidden underworld and dirty secrets that lie behind the seemingly peaceful and affluent homes of the gated community.

The first series aired on Showtime in August 2005 and will run for 5 series.

TheWB.com Launches August 27The WB Network brand was once synonymous with a number of big TV shows, but after being abandoned two years ago, it disappeared overnight. Where to next? The Web of course, which offers a lifeline for networks not deemed fit for traditional television.

Warner Brothers announced in April that it would be bringing back formerly dead The WB Network TV brand. The ad supported video on demand venture would include two sites, TheWB.com and KidsWB.com.

From Beta To Public

TheWB.com then launched in private beta at the beginning of June. At the time, the site was said to be half-finished and containing only a few episodes of a few shows.

Now, two months later and a date has been set for a full public launch. Warner Bros. has until August 27th to iron out all of the original problems as that’s when we’ll all be able to visit the site and make our own minds up.
