Scrubs Synopsis

Scrubs is a sitcom about the misadventures of young doctors at the Sacred Heart teaching hospital in a manner best described as “The Simpsons meets Grey’s Anatomy.”

Zach Braff (Garden State) stars as Dr. John “J.D.” Dorian who must deal with strange patients, the hospital’s antagonistic janitor, and his own wild imagination, which indulges in daydreams and fantasies.

The rest of the cast includes Sarah Chalke as J.D.’s ex-girlfriend (and fellow doctor) Elliot, Donald Faison as J.D.’s best friend Turk, and John C. McGinley as the cranky Dr. Cox.

It’s looking as though mobile television is going to grow exponentially over the next few years, with faster and more numerous connections, and more devices capable of streaming video. TV.com clearly wants in on the ground level, and has already started its push.

Hulu Vs. Joost Vs. TV.com

Hulu and Joost were once the two big online video portals battling it out for the hearts and minds of viewers. But Joost has fallen by the wayside of late, a victim of not having enough premium content regularly airing. The switch to being browser-based has helped, but not enough to keep it buzzworthy and in the news.

The new battle seems to be between Hulu and TV.com, a relatively new entry into he video portal market after evolving from being a more community-based affair. The two sites have traded blows recently, with Hulu removing its content from TV.com after the former realized the latter could be stiff competition.

The Big Bang Theory Synopsis

CBS’ The Big Bang Theory is a classic “opposites attract” sitcom. When pretty, blonde Penny moves in to the apartment across the hall from physicists and ubernerds Leonard and Sheldon, they are dazzled by her looks.

Soon Penny’s social skills, practical, down to earth personality and sense of humor prove to them that she’s no dumb blonde stereotype. The trio form an unlikely but mutually beneficial friendship, along with Leonard and Sheldon’s other geek friends, Raj and Howard.

The Big Bang Theory stars Kaley Kuoco as Penny, Johnny Galecki as Leonard, and Jim Parsons as Sheldon. Its first season was cut short due to the writers’ strike, so CBS ordered 24 episodes for its second season. Paired with How I Met Your Mother on Mondays, it has hit series highs several times this season.

There’s a trend at present to offer people the opportunity to create their own version of popular Web destinations. You can create your own social network, fully customizable blogs, and anything else you set your heart on. And online video has now joined the throng.

Fliggo Opens Its Doors

Fliggo is a new start-up that has been in private beta for a while, but is now open to the great unwashed or you and I. In a nutshell, it allows anyone to create their own video-sharing site, be it a YouTube clone, a blog, or a private place to share.

Fliggo tries to make the whole process of creating and running a video-sharing site as easy as humanly possible, and it manages to do exactly that. All of the technical side is done for you with a set of easy-to-use management tools enabling some degree of customization.

Options, Options, Options

The site you create using Fliggo can be private or public, and cater to your own personal whims. Are you a group of people which wants to share videos amongst yourself? Burn Notice Synopsis

Burn Notice stars Jeffrey Donovan as Michael Westen, a spy who one day found himself dismissed from service via “burn notice.” He’s got no job, no assets, and no identity. He hires himself out as a private investigator and works to uncover who wanted him out of the spy business and why.

The comedy-drama series on USA also features Gabrielle Anwar as Fiona, Westen’s ex-girlfriend and sometime assistant in his investigations, Sharon Gless as Madeline, Westen’s manipulative yet loving mother, and Bruce Campbell as Sam, Westen’s friend and last contact with his spying life.

Burn Notice has been a successful series for USA. It has spawned tie-in novels and it was renewed for a third season, which will begin airing later in 2009.

Flight of the Conchords synopsis

Flight of the Conchords is a television series that debuted on HBO in 2007. Flight of the Conchords is a Grammy award winning New Zealand comedy duo that consists of Jermaine Clement and Bret McKenzie who star in this fictionalized account as they try to make it big in New York.

The series is currently in it’s second season while the Flight of the Conchords have announced an US Tour that will commence after second season ends.

The World Wide Web has supposedly drawn the whole of humanity closer together. Right? In the main, yes, but not in the world of online video where each territory is treated very differently. But that’s hopefully going to change soon, with the first signs now starting to show.

Territorial Rights Licensing

One of the biggest issues remaining in the world of online video has to be that of international rights licensing. While most mediums of entertainment have realized that the world is now figuratively much smaller than it ever has been before, Web television continues to segregate us all.

This is a bizarre situation because online video, as its name suggests, is the one medium that relies solely on the existence of the Internet, and the Internet is a huge reason why the world now feels that much smaller. In the world of online TV, the World Wide Web doesn’t hold true to its word.

Arguing The Case

We’ve discussed these issues in depth on a couple of occasions here at WebTVWire. In September, 2008, I called for a complete overhaul of the territorial rights licensing rules and regulations. And in October, I suggested that Web video won’t really succeed until such change occurs.
