The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency Synopsis
The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency premieres tonight on HBO. It is based on a series of novels by Alexander McCall Smith, about a Botswana woman named Precious Ramotswe who decides to open a detective agency in her country.
The series stars Jill Scott as Mma Ramotswe and Anika Noni Rose as her assistant, Mma Makutsi. It was filmed entirely in Botswana and the pilot was directed by Anthony Minghella, who is also an executive producer of the show.
The No. 1. Ladies’ Detective Agency originally began airing in the UK on March 15, where the pilot had nearly 6 million viewers. HBO picked up the series for American audiences and it begins airing on March 29.
