Mobile TV usage has declined over the past 12 months, a recent survey reveals.
In fact, the Continental Research survey of close to 1000 mobile phone users revealed many advanced mobile phone services have declined in use since last year.
In addition to the decline in mobile TV, the survey found mobile internet access usage had dropped two percent and ringtone downloads were down six percent.
The only advanced mobile services to experience growth were MMS messages and game downloads – both were up a percent from last year.
No Surpise to Me
Personally, the fact that TV and internet on mobiles isn’t taking off at a huge rate of knots is no surprise. After the initial novelty period fades, it doesn’t take one long to discover that trying to watch an average quality TV broadcast on a 2” screen simply isn’t practical, or worthwhile.
According to the survey, sixty-eight percent of mobile users would seem to agree with me – they’d rather a more basic phone and better prices.
And for the record, I’m not some old technophobe who doesn’t know how to use these features! I’m in my late twenties – probably one of the target markets for mobile companies – and I’m a technology professional.
