Motorola is not a company that you may instantly associate with IPTV boxes, or set top boxes in general. If you asked the man on the street what Motorola does he would probably mention cell phones.
However Motorola has had a strong placement in the set top box (STB) market for some time. Last year it announced that it has shifted 50 million cable boxes.
Motorola Set for IPTV
ABI Research has highlighted Motorola as the most prominent player for the growing IPTV STB market.
Motorola, already a strong player in STBs, recently acquired Kreatel, an IPTV STB leader, giving Motorola a more prominent entry into the IP set top box market adding to its existing IP video solutions.
Motorola also has an ongoing rollout of telco TV services by Verizon, the market driver for TV/phone/internet triple play packages in the US.
Other IP-STB companies in the running
Also mentioned as companies prominently placed for the IP-STB market by ABI Research was ADB Globaland and French vendor Sagem Communication.
