Serial Experiments Lain is an anime cyberpunk television series that premiered on Tokyo TV in July of 1998.

Serial Experiments Lain is a cult anime series directed by Ryutaro Nakamura and written by Chiaki J. Konaka. It tells a cyberpunk story about Lain Iwakura, young girl who starts receiving online messages from her classmate who recently committed suicide. Trying to learn the truth behind her death, Lain becomes more and more immersed in “the Wired” – internet, exploring the nature of reality and consciousness in the process.
