The U.S. District Court has dismissed a copyright infringement case in which Io Group alleged Veoh had broken the law by the use of its transcoding method.

DMCA Takedowns Not Sufficient?

Io Group, an adult entertainment company, launched the lawsuit back in 2006 after some of its pornographic material ended up on Veoh due to being uploaded by a user.

Io Group first sent DMCA takedown notices, which were duly and very quickly honoured with the removal of the videos. But that wasn’t enough and it sued Veoh anyway.

Considering booth location was less than optimal – Ripcode’s own fault for signing up late – they still got good foot traffic and were kept busy talking with visitors and demoing their On-Demand Transcoding solution for mobile video.

How On Demand Video Transcoding Enables More Personalised Advertising OpportunitiesOn the digital media website Contentinople yesterday, Frank Smith talked about a comment that Philip Inghelbrecht of video sharing site YouTube made during a Digital Hollywood Media Summit in New York.  

Inghelbrecht remarked that 10 hours of fresh content is uploaded to YouTube every minute… which is quite plainly amazing.  

Frank’s post also went on to talk about the strain the volume of new media content is putting on storage, exceeding current capabilities, with an estimated 281 billion Gbytes uploaded in 2007 based on an IDC study sponsored by EMC Corp.
