The Sweeney Synopsis

The Sweeney is a police drama television series that debuted on ITV in January of 1975.

It followed the story of Inspector Jack Regan (played by John Thaw) and his partner Sergeant George Carter (played by Dennis Waterman), two members of an elite branch of London Metropolitan Police dealing with violent crimes. The grim and gritty tone of the series was influenced by British crime movies such as Get Carter!

The Sweeney aired four seasons and was made into two feature films.
