State of Play Synopsis

State of Play is a British drama television series that debuted on BBC in May 2003.

State of Play follows the story of investigative journalist at The Herald Cal McCaffrey (played by John Simm) who together with his colleagues starts investigating what seems to be a drug related murder and unrelated coincidental death of a young staffer at an MP’s office. It turns out the deaths are related and reveal a corruption within the highest levels of government.

State of Play was adapted to a movie released in 2009 and starring Ben Affleck, Helen Mirren and Russell Crowe.
