Heavy.com, which claims to be the leading web consumer media company for 18-34 year old males, has done a deal to supply content to Alliance Atlantis Cable TV channels.

Alliance channels, including Showcase Diva and IFC, are likely to screen some of the unique programs produced by Heavy Inc which feature on Heavy.com. The site also includes user created videos similar to other popular video sharing sites like YouTube.

However, Heavy is much more than a video sharing site – it’s more an online entertainment portal which attracts big advertisers such as Panasonic, Nike and Nissan. No surprise considering the site’s key audience is also a key demographic for marketers from such companies.

What’s on Heavy.com?

Heavy boasts one of the best line-ups of original produced-for-internet programs I have personally seen. Shows such as Superficial Friends and Tourette Cowboy (both are animated) are well put together and very funny (and yes I fit in to their target demographic!).

It’s these shows, along with many of the other satirical offerings from Heavy, which are tipped to appear on cable as short fillers between programs or as segments within programs.

Goes to show that new media really can be a creative hunting ground for traditional media outlets, and perhaps we will begin to see more of this trend in the future. If you haven’t see Heavy.com before, I recommend checking it out!
