October 10th, 2010 at 12:11 amStreaming will only be able to compete if the bandwidth is sufficient to transmit 1080 HD. Currently that’s not viable and leaves an opening for Sony and its partners to capture market share with Blu-ray. The monies that companies like ATT collected and was forced to spend at government demand, whether defending or breaking its monopoly must now find a way to run fiber to residential homes without sufficient funds, if it intends to compete. The additional debt will likely put further strain on companies like ATT as they weather bad press for problems that are only partially their fault at worst. Perhaps a little leveling of the field is necessary like tax on Blu-ray sales go to fund fiber infrastructure investment?
