Watch Internet TV in your Lounge Room

iSuppli Corporation, an online market intelligence company, has reported that entertainment and sports will be the most popular genres on internet TV by 2009, with news coming in third.

News currently dominates internet video because it’s naturally presented in short clips that are simple to consume. But as internet TV finds its way in to living rooms, advertisers will pour more money in to entertainment and sports productions, the report found.

iSuppli said that bandwidth would increase by more than 44 times from 2006 to 2011 to support the adoption of internet TV as a standard lounge room viewing medium.

It labeled internet TV as one of the most disruptive technologies in decades, and advised content providers to find a balance between reach and control.

The report said that the market for professional video-over-broadband would grow to around $5.8 billion next year, up from $423 million in 2006.
