June 2nd, 2008 at 10:43 amGreat article and very insightful. The aspect of programming ‘windows’ is one that few consumers are aware of and is probably the single largest cause of frustration among viewers seeking traditional TV programming through an online video experience.
The issue of convergence and the kind of UI’s needed for browsing web video on television is also a very interesting subject. A UI for browsing online video on TV is very different from one on a webpage.
I’d also propose another subject and that is the very different psychology of television versus online video. TV is not an interactive whereas online video is. We expect a ’somebody else does the driving’ experience on TV, and when online we are used to doing the driving ourselves. TV is a way to relax, online is less so. Etc.
It’s good to see you getting these issues out there!
