I only buy original DVD's but i cant believe that Movie companies dont actually understand why piracy exists. Firstly why does it take 4 months for an official DVD release after the cinemas..?? people cant wait that long including me. Ok yes DVD extras, different editions all take alot of thinking but people cant wait that long. The solution... every movie should have the dvd relased when its comes out in the cinema.. Yes it will work, all dvd's retail at roughly £15 - £30 in the uk, all you have to do is stock the film.. (no case/extras/fancy collectables...nothing) just the movie on a disc in a cheap plastic sleeve. These will be for retail only at the cinemas for as long as the movie is being played. For fans like me i have watched the dark knight so far 5 times in the cinema, 3 times at Vue and the other 2 at IMAX.. at the moment i cant get enough of it and even im tempted to get a copy as going to the cinema is costing me nearly £20 a time. The copy...Yes im not expecting the movie to be in 5.1 surround sound or be in HD. Just the standard film in standard quality, this will retail at £10 just for a disc.. people will stop buying pirated dvds and buy these. DVD sales will hit the roofs, and all movie fans would pay £10 for a dvd like batman as it can be watched over and over again... 4 months later we will buy the film again in a special collectors edition with 5.1 surround, dvd extras and a fancy case. The only drawback is cinema sales will go down but for fans like me going 5 times... i still want to go again. All you have to do is release a standard version on disc to be sold at the cinema while the film is on.. piracy will stop. Yes people will copy them and make multiple copies and upload them on the internet but all warner have to do again is put movies on their websites and charge people to view them. I wouldnt mind paying the price of a cinema ticket on a website to view the movie. Fighting piracy is hard but if movies are available easily people will pay.. it is as simple as that. Wanting a bad copy with terrible sound is something people hate. Oh by the way.. im a 24 year old IT Tutor/Lecturer, even though i would know how to.. downloading movies isnt something that entertains me. Any movie I have a "downloaded" copy of I can almost guarantee that I have seen it in theatres or rented it at some point or maybe even saw it on TV. So you multi billion dollar movie studios still got there money. Piracy helped build a fan base for Batman Begins and when the sequel came many of the pirates went to see it in the theater. Making a good movie with a lot of fans is a much better victory than 38 hours without piracy! If anything, TDK shows that if MPAA and RIAA spent half as much time on quality enhancement as they do to catch teenagers with computers, piracy would not exist. Even if someone had shown me a DVD print of this movie before its release, just because of its sheer quality, I would have gone to see it in the theatre. People who are watching the camcorder print of it are people who would not pay for the movie anyway - with or without piracy. Although I personally download movies off of sites like Pirate Bay, I still will see the movie first in the theatre. Some of the movies (especially The Dark Knight), just cannot be fully experienced in one's own home. A viewing on the big screen is simply necessary. I do, however, think it's still sad that such a large amount of people download. I only download movies that I have seen and somewhat enjoyed, but don't want to spend the money to buy. Any ones that I absolutely enjoy I will purchase, as a support to the cast and crew. I agree with the last paragraph of this article.
