They are not stealing, think of it as posting videos you like up, and stick your ads around the content. I dont see any stealing going on, everyone knows who made the damn tv shows or movies.

um, man , I know there are ppl trying to make money off of this, but there are ppl that can only afford basic internet and can’t afford to pay to watch these. All I want to do is watch my fav tv shows. But
I can’t bc fox took half this shit off of their network, plz man, take it ez on these sites

Ive been going to Allsp for several years now, and all was well and good UNTIL two seasons ago, maybe three seasons ago. It was obvious, there was VERY little advertising besides initially loading the episode. NOW there’s that, plus four or five pop-ups that cant be avoided by firefox, plus the standard small grey box asking for quick paypal donations for servers, last thing you see when the episode ends (it doesnt get more aggressive than that). Only NOW is allsp in it for the MONEY, but thats NOT how it started out!!!!!!!!!! Yes, some can be written off as heavier traffic to the site since it IS commercial free of an excellent series, but the rest of the ads are pure greed on behalf of allsp and their site that has fallen from grace.

@Chozen – I provided Adbrites promotional video so you can hear their side. I also invited them to comment on the article but did not hear anything back. So this is not one sided.

Sure this has uses for legitimate content producers which is shown by the Adbrite promo video – but Adbrite have clearly allowed a pirate to use their service to monetize stolen content.

As a company they make a choice not to check the quality of publishers using their service and make a choice to ignore reports of illegal content using their advertising system. Allsp did stop using AdBrite but it was many months after this article was published.

Othe Ad Broking companies such as Adsense will actively inspect new publihers and also look into reports sent to them about illegal content. AdBrite also has a similar responsibility which in this case it did not live up to.

Just cause it is uploaded to YouTube doesn’t mean it is in the public domain – the uploader (who should be the owner or have rights to upload) agrees to usage rights on how the content can be used by YouTube and YouTube users.

You completely missed the point of the adbrite player, they didn’t make so that pirate sites can capitalize from it they made it for content providers to make money from their content it’s unavoidable that pirate sites are going use it as well, all they can do is remove those sites once they become aware of the issue. That is the best they can do they can’t control who uses the video player the same way youtube can’t control what videos are uploaded until they are reported……..Common sense.

A very bias and not very informative article…give us some pros and cons.

So let me get this straight. You have a problem with people stealing non-copyrighted content from sites like Youtube that is not intended for sale, but you don’t have a problem with people stealing corporate profits? That sounds socialist and hypocritical.

In the USA and Europe linking to pirated material in a systematic way is illegal. It is not protected by safe harbor laws if it is knowingly linking to pirated material.

YouTube is not breaking the law because it removes the episodes when requested – hence it is protected by the DMCA.

Also it is not simply linking – it is redistributing them using a different broadcasting system and inserting their own adverts. This is known as vicarious infringement as AllSP gains a financial benefit.

Really? It is the only reason the site exists.

It definitely condones earning from other people’s content. Which is nothing other than stealing.

If AllSP wants to give the finger to Fox and other TV networks then remove all the adverts – then the argument against ALLSP for copyright violation is significantly weakened.

You have to realise that ALLSP and Adbrite are not breaking the laws in their countries. ALLSP merely provides links to the services such as youtube and myspace which are breaking the law by hosting the episodes. Statements such as “Video pirates like ALLSP” are incorrect. Allsp does not in any way condone the upload of pirated episodes.
