Cosmos Synopsis

Famed astronomer Carl Sagan hosts the 13-part Cosmos, one of the most widely-watched documentary series in public television history.

During the course of Cosmos, Sagan covers a wide variety of scientific topics, most of which relate to space and astronomy.

Other topics that Sagan covers include the origin of life, physics, philosophy, genetics, and even UFOs.

Mega Disasters Synopsis

Airing on the History channel, Mega Disasters is a treat for any fan of disaster movies and apocalyptic novels. Each episode tackles a different potential disaster, caused by a geological, meteorological, cosmic, or man-made catastrophe.

The series uses a combination of archive footage and CGI to imagine how each of these disasters would affect the earth and mankind. The show was inspired by the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The majority of episodes focus on potential catastrophes in the United States.

The first two seasons of Mega Disasters had 13 episodes each, while season three had 11 episodes. It has yet to be renewed for a fourth season. All episodes are available for purchase on DVD.

Better Off Ted Synopsis

Better Off Ted is 20th Century Fox produced situation comedy that debuted on ABC in March of 2009.

Better Off Ted centers around Ted (played by Jay Harrington) who is the head of Research and Development of Veridian Dynamics, a large multinational corporation with dubious and unscrupulous practices. Ted is also a single father of a 7-year old Rose. Ted finds himself conflicted since he is ethical, while his employers are not.

Better Off Ted is currently in it’s first season.

Da Vinci’s Inquest Synopsis

Da Vinci’s Inquest stars Nicholas Campbell as Dominic Da Vinci, an ex-Mountie now working as a coroner who’s our for justice in the strange cases he investigates.

Unlike the average procedural like Law & Order or CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, the cases are often unexplained and sometimes even remain unsolved.

Eventually, Da Vinci’s Inquest spun-off into the short-lived series Da Vinci’s City Hall, in which Dominic Da Vinci was mayor of Vancouver, British Columbia.

How The Earth Was Made Synopsis

How The Earth Was Made is a History Channel documentary news series. It explores the geological and environmental events that helped shape our planet. Each episode looks at a specific area of the earth and shows viewers how features in each area were formed over millions of years.

The series is narrated by frequent History Channel narrator Edward Herrman. It includes 13 episodes and a DVD set will be released in August 2009. A documentary TV film which the series spun off from was first aired in 2007 and is available on DVD.

We’re slowly but surely moving towards a high-definition future. Both Apple and Amazon now look to be offering HD downloads, with more companies likely to follow suit. The war has begun.

Offline HD

In the offline world, HD is all the rage. A large percentage of the population now own Full-HD or HD-Ready televisions, and despite a slow launch, where it had to battle against HD DVD to become the format of choice, there is evidence that Blu-ray is also gaining a sizable market share.

There are also more content providers than ever offering their wares in high-definition, with Sky HD and BBC HD two of the leading proponents.

Online HD

Online has so far been a different story. Hindered by bandwidth and Broadband speed limitations, many Web companies have lagged behind their offline counterparts in offering a range of HD services. But no more.

Stargate Atlantis Synopsis

A spin-off of the popular series Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis stars Joe Flanigan as John Sheppard, commander of the expedition to explore the lost city of Atlantis, which is located in another galaxy.

Under Sheppard’s command are the scientist Rodney McKay, the Athosian leader Teyla Emmagan, diplomat Elizabeth Weir, and Satedan weapons specialist Ronon Dex, among others.

In addition to exploring Atlantis, the team must deal with the various alien threats that show up during their explorations.
