This Just In, the video website dubbed by HBO as a comedy portal to be used as both a brand extension and to develop potential shows, is being shut down after just six months.

Variety reports that Time Warner will unwind the venture during the coming weeks, before closing the door on This Just In sometime in August.

Announced in late 2006, new-media executive for HBO, Carmi Zlotnick said at the time the firm hoped to create:

a robust destination that can have the potential of becoming part of the watercooler pop culture like many of our network programs have become.”

Veoh Hires Mitgang as CEO

Posted on Thursday 26 July 2007

veohlogo1.jpgOnline video company Veoh Networks Inc has announced the hiring of Steve Mitgang, formerly of Yahoo!, as its new CEO, replacing Dmitry Shapiro, who is now the Chief Innovation Officer.

Steve comes to Veoh from Yahoo!, where he was Senior Vice President of the global team leading the definition, creation, and marketing of Yahoo!’s advertising products, platforms, and services. He led the development of Project Panama, Yahoo’s next generation contextual advertising platform.

Wih Steve Mitgang’s arrival, I am curious to see if Veoh develops any interesting ideas to make money with online video. According to the LA Times, Mitgang said his job at Veoh would be to build a one-stop shop for advertisers seeking to connect with viewers of online video.

Just one handset, HTC’s so-called ‘Lobster Phone’, was available to Virgin subscribers wanting in on the venture.

It caters for people with both voyeuristic tendencies – the ones that like to watch (I mean that in the nicest possible way) - and those that want to show off their talents to the world.

Young adults watch humorous online video

Findings of a study conducted earlier this year show that young adults (18-29 years of age) most frequent YouTube as their primary source of online video. The same demographic was also found to watch humorous videos more so than any other age group.

Of the young adults surveyed, half had watched online video on YouTube, whereas only 15 percent had used MySpace and 7 percent had watched clips on cable or network TV websites.

YouTube & CNN Presidential Debate GOATSE’d | Adding Ass to The Debate

CNN YouTube Presidential Debate

Old media discovered the pitfalls of new media this week when CNN and YouTube partnered to host the US Presidential Debate. It was only 1/24 of a second during the live TV broadcast, but CNN executives have labeled it “despicable”.

During one of the user generated videos containing a question (the videos were a feature of the debate) an offensive picture, apparently well known as the GOATSE, was flashed up momentarily in front of the live national TV audience.

The picture, which portrays a male doing something with his body that makes even the strongest-stomached person wince, has been doing the rounds on the internet since 2000.
